[Sometimes people chase their problems. Sometimes they don't and little nuisances -as one could call Kel 'little' considering he's growing in height and building muscles- appear at someone's door, just knocking and smiling widely.]
Oh Zeeeeelda? Delivery time!
[He hopes to find her at home. His kitchen has been filled with strawberry shortcake attempts and cake roll ones and... the great cake distribuition system is now at work.
He packed one of the strawberry cakes and Kel has to pray he can deliver it before it starts suffering due to the heat.]
Hi Zelda, it's Kabru. Can I ask you some questions?
I understand if you're busy or not in a position to talk, given everything going on at the moment, but I promise this is important. Please just respond to this when you can.
Izutsumi mentioned you have time powers. That being the case, have they given you any insight into what's happening currently, and what can be done to fix it?
I do, yes, though I must tell you I am relatively inexperienced in them. I only discovered my powers a few months ago.
As for insight, I've been wondering about the situation myself. Ever since I was changed back into my younger self. The way I use time power does not result in the same effects.
Would it be safe to try a few experiments using your powers? I don't want you to do anything that might put you at harm, so please don't feel pressured to take unnecessary risks, but maybe there's something you can learn.
It's possible, but we need to consider the nature of what's actually occurring here.
I can use my power to move objects through time. The way it was explained to me by the person who taught me, is that it's bringing out the memory of the object. There is more to it than that but in essence this is how it works for me.
What I have seen and experienced in Somnius however seems like a different manipulation of time. Tell me, how would you describe the effects you have seen yourself so far?
They look more like tears in reality, that send people back in time. Or bring people and creatures here that shouldn't be.
Given the way your powers work, would it be possible you could use the memory of something -- or someone -- to send them back to where they're supposed to be?
Yes. It's a little similar to what was happening with those games last month, only much more serious.
Maybe, but I don't know for certain. The only time I've affected a person was myself - and that was an accident. It didn't change me, only sent me backwards in time. And I haven't been able to reverse that.
[It's important that Kabru knows her only experience moving a person back through time was a huge mistake, and unfixed. Some experiments may be too dangerous to think about.]
[It sounds like she has about as much control over it as Mithrun's teleportation magic... and it could be just as erratic and dangerous as a consequence, if not moreso. But Mithrun had found a way to weaponise that to his advantage, even with the risks, so...]
Maybe you just need practice with it to understand it better, like any magic? Normally I'd say it isn't worth the risk, but given the stakes here, we should consider all the possibilities at our disposal.
[Kabru does not want to know the advantage Zelda found after being yeeted into the distant past.]
Of course. We must also remember we likely don't know what all of those possibilities might be.
I agree that there's likely something to be gained from practice. But I don't think you quite understand the scale of what could go wrong when it comes to time magic. When I say I sent myself back through time accidentally, it was by thousands of years. I doubt that's possible for me here [not without her Secret Stone] but I wouldn't want to put a person at risk just to try and solve what might be a temporary memory lapse, or return to their younger self.
But I have been thinking about something. The large crystal cracked, didn't it? And that's when these problems started. When I use my power on an object, I am asking it to return to where it once was. Like a memory.
So I wonder if the crystal starting to crack is somehow bringing out its memory of this place.
If the crystal itself has some power over time, it would make sense for things to go wrong if it becomes unstable.
I have asked the crystal before for an object from home that exists in my original time, even though the time I was in was thousands of years before it was ever made. I got that object. So it must form part of its magic.
It might be that this world was unstable to begin with. I mean, it brings us all from all manner of realms, and there's someone from my world who claims things about me that I've said and done that they have no business of knowing yet... as if she's from the future. I don't have any reason to believe they're lying.
So in that sense, the crystal only makes things even more dangerous.
[ On Christmas morning, Zelda will find on her doorstep a small package containing a beautiful leather bound journal with an embossed vines and florals design on the cover, made by one of the local craftspeople long before they shuttered their businesses to the dreamers. Inside is an inscription: ]
Merry Christmas, Zelda! I hope you can use this to record the strange and wonderful things we experience here over the next year.
( For Zelda, Basil drops off a flower crown made with different roses -- some pink, yellow, blue, orange. They've been given magic to keep them alive and the flower crown together for as long as Zelda wishes to keep it.
He leaves a note for her.
Zelda,
Roses have a lot of different meanings to them, but all of these mean admiration, friendship, and gentleness... They reminded me a lot of you.
[Hey, it's Stringbean! She flies into the room, and she gives Zelda a small package!
In it, Luz has had crafted a necklace that reflected the Northern Lights! Stringbean gives a wink and flies out!
Enclosed is this letter:
Hey Zelda! I remembered this sight on Earth, and I thought it would be perfect for you! I hope you have a great holiday, and that we have more time together to talk and help each other! Take care!
[ A box is left outside of Zelda's Home with the following items!
Obtained x1 New Bag of similar Look x1 Thigh Bag of similar Look x1 A metal insulated cup to keep warm or hot beverages inside. It is girly in its design, with several flowers all over it. This is very basic looking and was clearly made here in Somnius. x1 Box of Chocolates x1 Plain Journal wrapped in fine leather x1 Map of Somnius that Zelda will realize is the one BB made for herself x1 A basket of Girlish Items, such as nail polish, body wash, lotion, etc.
Letter/Card: Merry Christmas, you look like the kind of girl that gets lost in adventuring when trying to study something. I hope this stuff helps! Let me know if you find any discoveries worth mentioning. I have my own lab back in my castle. Anyway, don't forget to have fun and spoil yourself! Girls always have to work extra hard to look as cute as we do! - BB ]</small
[ On March 3rd, Zelda will find the following on her doorstep -
1) a handwritten note - "Happy Birthday, Zelda!!! I'm very happy you were born!!! Love, Webby!!!" that also includes a crayon drawing of the two holding hands. 2) A big chocolate cupcake. 3) A tiny gift box. Inside are earrings for her pretty pointed ears... in the shape of swords, for some reason. Webby logic. ]
[When Zelda finds the presents from Webby, she's so touched it makes her a little misty-eyed. The crayon drawing gets pinned up next to the drawing she has from home. The cupcake? Gets eaten.
And she will wear those earrings next time she plans to meet the girl. Just watch.]
[ At some point during the week, Zelda receives an invitation:
I'll be hosting a dinner party on March 22 and would love to see you there!
Feel free to come to the Horizons farmhouse any time after 5 PM.
Please do not bring anything! No food, no drinks, nothing but your presence. I appreciate the thought, but for me, the joy of this is being able to cook for a group of people, and I would like to handle it myself.
Hope to see you there!
Dr. Maruki
One gets the impression that if you go against his wishes to bring something anyway, it might stress him out...
When the mingle log goes up on the 22nd, please feel free to come tag around! ]
